I. Lý thuyết cách làm câu so sánh
Các cấu trúc so sánh cơ bản:
- So sánh bằng
Sử dụng khi so sánh cái này như cái kia, bằng cái kia.
Công thức: as + adj/adv + as hoặc so + adj/adv + as
Ví dụ: Nam sings as beautifully as a singer.( Nam hát hay như ca sĩ.)
- So sánh hơn
Sử dụng khi so sánh cái này hơn cái kia
Công thức:
– Với tính từ, trạng từ 1 âm tiết: adj/adv- er + than
Ví dụ: Hang is taller than Thao. ( Hằng cao hơn Thảo)
– Với tính từ, trạng từ 2 âm tiết trở lên: more + adj/adv + than
Ví dụ: Hang is more beautiful than Thao. ( Hằng xinh hơn Thảo)
- So sánh nhất
Sử dụng khi so sánh cái thì hơn tất cả những cái khác
Công thức:
– Với tính từ, trạng từ một âm tiết: the + adj/adv- est
Ví dụ: Nam is the tallest in my classroom.
– Với tính từ, trạng từ có 2 âm tiết trở lên: the + most + adj/adv
Ví dụ: This is the most difficult problem ( Đây là vấn đề khó nhất)

Ngoài 3 dạng so sánh cơ bản như trên, trong tiếng Anh còn một số dạng so sánh đặc biệt và bạn cần hiểu chúng để có thể làm các bài tập so sánh trong tiếng Anh nâng cao.
- So sánh kém
– So sánh kém hơn
Với tính từ, trạng từ:
S + V + less + adj/adv + than + noun/pronoun = S + V + not as + adj/adv + as + noun/pronoun
Với danh từ:
Danh từ đếm được: S + V + fewer + plural noun + than + noun/pronoun
Danh từ không đếm được: S + V + less + uncountable noun + than + noun/pronoun/ clause
– So sánh kém nhất: S + V + the least + adj/adv + noun/ pronoun/ clause
- So sánh kép
– Nếu câu có 1 ý:
Đối với tính từ ngắn: S + V + Adj/ adv-er + and + adj/adv-er
Đối với tính từ dài: S+ V + more and more + adj/adv
– Nếu câu có 2 ý:
Đối với tính từ ngắn: The + adj/ adv-er + S + V, The + adj/ adv-er + S + V
Đối với tính từ dài: The + more + adj/adv + S + V, The + more + adj/ advn + S + V
