I. Lý thuyết cách làm Tính từ ghép

1. Tính từ ghép là gì?

Tính từ ghép (Compound adjective) là tính từ gồm 2 hoặc nhiều từ khác nhau, được liên kết với nhau bằng dấu gạch nối (-). Chúng được dùng để bổ nghĩa cho danh từ và luôn đứng trước danh từ.

Ví dụ:

hand-made (làm bằng tay) => hand-made gift

well-known (nổi tiếng) => well-known artist

long-lasting (lâu dài) => long-lasting relationship

2. Cách thành lập tính từ ghép

Cấu trúc tính từ ghép trong tiếng anh được tạo ra bằng cách ghép tính từ với tính từ, danh từ với tính từ, hay thậm chí với phân từ. Dưới đây là các loại tính từ ghép phổ biến trong tiếng anh.

a. Tính từ + Tính từ

· I will follow the north-west direction. (Tôi sẽ đi theo hướng dẫn chỉ phía tây bắc)

· She has the blue-black eyes. (Cô ấy có đôi mắt màu xanh đen)

· Just look at the top - right corner of the TV. (Hãy nhìn vào góc phải màn hình TV)

b. Tính từ + Danh từ

· Do you know this red-carpet even? (Anh có biết đến sự kiện rải thảm đỏ này không)

· It’s a deep-sea treasure. (Nó là kho báu dưới biển sâu)

· I want to find a part –time job. (Tôi muốn tìm 1 công việc bán thời gian)

c. Danh từ + Tính từ

· I hate sitting in the ice-cold room like this. (Tôi ghét ngồi trong 1 căn phòng lạnh như đá như thế này)

· She has a snow-white skin. (Cô ấy có 1 làn da trắng như tuyết)

· Do you have any sugar-free cupcakes? (Chú có cái bánh ngọt nào không đường không?)

d. Quá khứ phân từ + danh từ/tính từ/trạng từ (mang nghĩa bị động)

- Với trạng từ

· Son Tung MTP singer is very well-known. (Ca sĩ Sơn Tùng MTP rất nổi tiếng, được nhiều người biết đến)

· Don’t worry! The company is now running like a well-oiled machine. (Đừng lo lắng, công ty giờ đây vận hành trơn ru như máy được tra dầu)

- Với tính từ

· Let’s go to the supermarket! We can have some ready-made food there. (Tới siêu thị đi. Chúng ta có thể chọn vài món ăn được làm sẵn ở đó)

· Tom is a full-grown kid. (Tom là 1 đứa trẻ phát triển đầy đủ)

- Với danh từ

· This is the hand-made gift. (Đây là quà được làm thủ công)

· My husband gave me these silver-palted earings. (Chồng tôi đã tặng tôi đôi bông tai mạ bạc này)

e. Hiện tại phân từ + danh từ/tính từ/trạng từ (mang nghĩa chủ động)

- Với tính từ

· He is a good-looking guy. (Anh ấy là 1 gã đẹp trai)

· Do you have to wear this close-fitting suit? (Em có cần thiết phải mặc bộ đồ bó sát vậy không?)

- Với danh từ

· “Father and daughter is one of the most heart-breaking movies I’ve ever seen. (Cha và con gái là 1 trong những bộ phim cảm động nhất tôi từng xem)

· There are some top-ranking songs you might want to hear. (Có 1 vài bài hát xếp hạng đầu mà em có thể muốn nghe đó)

- Với trạng từ

· We need a forward-thinking leader for this position. (Chúng ta cần 1 người lãnh đạo biết nhìn xa trông rộng cho vị trí này)

f. Từ chỉ số lượng + Danh từ

· You’re sitting under the 100-year tree. (Cậu đang ngồi dưới cái cây 100 tuổi đó)

· Can you carry a fifty-kilo box to the 3rd floor? (Anh có thể bưng cái hộp 50 kg lên lầu 3 được không vậy?)

· My 13-year-old son is the best student in class. (Đứa con trai 13 tuổi của tôi là học sinh giỏi nhất lớp)

· My wife has a 5000-dollar dog. (Vợ của tôi có 1 con chó trị giá $5000)

· This hous has a 300-person capacity. (Ngôi nhà này có sức chứa 300 người)

g. Tính từ + Danh từ + -ed (mang nghĩa là có)

· The grey-haired girl looks familiar. (Cô gái có tóc màu xám trông quen lắm)

· Uncle Ho is a strong-minded leader. (Bác Hồ là 1 nhà lãnh đạo có tinh thần rất mạnh mẽ)

· Amanda is a slow-witted student. (Amanda là 1 học sinh chậm hiểu)

h. Những cách kết hợp khác của tính từ ghép

· Hard-up (hết sạch tiền)

· Day-to-day (hàng ngày)

· All-out (hết sức)

· Well-off (khấm khá, khá giả)

· So-so (không tốt lắm)

· Per capita (tính theo đầu người)
