Maintaining cultural identity (Duy trì bản sắc văn hóa)

1. (Trang 63 - Tiếng anh 12): Work with a partner. Discuss and decide if activities (1-4) can help people to maintain their cultural identity. Match each of them with its reasons (a-d).

1. preserving native language: develops intellectual abilities; shapes cultural identity

2. wearing traditional clothing: represents national identities; reflects climatic conditions

(mặc quần áo truyền thống: thể hiện bản sắc quốc gia, phản ánh điều kiện khí hậu)

3. celebrating traditional holidays: offers a sense of being rooted in native culture; brings people together

(kỷ niệm ngày lễ truyền thống: mang lại cảm giác được bắt nguồn từ văn hóa bản xứ; mang mọi người lại với nhau)

4. eating traditional food: gives big appetites and adequate nutrition; strengthens cultural ties

2. (Trang 63 -Tiếng anh 12): Use ideas in 1 to fill each of the numbered spaces in the following conversation. Then practise it in groups of three.

C: That’s true. Language is a vital part of culture and critical to a person’s cultural identity.

A: Yes. It enables people to communicate, establish links with family and community members, and acquire and value their native culture.

B: I can’t agree more. It is said that peoples’ first language helps them develop their intellectual abilities and shape their cultural identity.

C: That’s absolutely correct. Do you have any anything else to add?

Tạm dịch:

A: Bạn nghĩ mọi người nên làm gì để duy trì bản sắc văn hoá trong thời đại toàn cầu hoá?

B: Tôi tin rằng họ nên giữ nguyên ngôn ngữ bản xứ của họ.

C: Đúng thế. Ngôn ngữ là một phần quan trọng của văn hoá và quan trọng đối với con người khi nhận diện văn hóa.

A: Vâng. Nó cho phép mọi người liên lạc, liên kết với các thành viên gia đình và cộng đồng, và thu nhận và đánh giá văn hóa bản xứ của họ.

B: Tôi không thể đồng ý nhiều hơn. Người ta nói rằng ngôn ngữ thứ nhất của người dân giúp họ phát triển khả năng trí tuệ của họ và định hình văn hóa.

C: Điều đó hoàn toàn chính xác. Bạn có bất cứ điều gì khác để nói thêm không?

3. (Trang 63 -Tiếng anh 12):  Have a similar conversation discussing what you should do to maintain cultural identity in the age of globalisation.

B: I believe they should  wearing traditional clothing.

C: That’s true. Traditional clothing represents national identities and reflects climatic conditions.
