There are more than 75 species of whales. Zoologists divide whales into two groups by the way they eat. One group, the toothed whales, have sharp teeth for catching prey. Many whales, including grey and blue ones, have become endangered. Some countries in the mid-1900s decided to limit whale hunting. Conservation groups now ask that all whale hunting be stopped. They fear that some kinds of whales could disappear forever.

Although jazz began in New Orleans, it soon moved to all the big cities like St. Louis, Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles. New forms of jazz developed and styles changed.

In the 1920s, America fell in love with dancing and popular jazz music. Dance halls were opened around the country. Women cut their hair short and worn short skirts for the first time. These women were called “flappers”. Older Americans were shocked by jazz music, the new dancers and the flappers. One of the most famous musicians of this time was Louise Armstrong. The idea of national parks began in the US, which now has 54 of them, covering over 80,000 square-miles (200,000 square kilometers). The great majority are in western states. For centuries, people have been playing kicking game with a ball. The game of soccer developed from some of these early games. The English properly gave soccer its name and its first set of rules.
